Olde Town Youth Center – New Construction – LEED Platinum

The City of Gaithersburg opened its first Youth Center in December 1990, serving between 50-70 youth daily, ranging in age from 11-14 years. Arts and crafts activities, sports, games and after-school tutoring and homework programs are provided daily. The facility is also rented to serve other private events. The scope of work for the new facility included design of a new modern, energy efficient and cost-effective facility situated in an alternate location. The facility is approximately 6,500 square feet and was designed to be LEED-NC certified. Solar photovoltaic roof panels and two (2) green roofs were included in the design. The solar system is a 6Kw array and was used to offset power usage during the day. An energy efficient geothermal system using 14 wells, 325 feet deep, were designed to heat and cool the building.  The project achieved a LEED Platinum Certification, exceeding client expectations.
