Alexandria Fire Station #203
Gipe Associates provided mechanical and electrical engineering services for the design and contract administration for the new Alexandria Fire Station #203.
The Alexandria Fire Station is a facility that will be utilized by the city of Alexandria VA, Department of Fire and Rescue. The facility is comprised of two and one-half (2-1/2) vehicle apparatus bays, sleeping quarters, PPE Storage, Decontamination Room, a commercial kitchen, dining area, offices, storage, study area, day room, weight room, locker rooms, toilet and other support spaces.
The heating and cooling for the administrative areas, bunk rooms, lobby, day room, weight room, and support spaces are provided by a variable refrigerant flow system. The mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems are designed to exceed ASHRAE 90.1 standards and achieve LEED Silver certification. Specialized ventilation systems were provided for PPE storage, kitchen, decontamination, and the engine bays in order to properly remove carbon monoxide, hazardous gases, and maintain humidity control. Heating and cooling for the facility are provided by an energy efficient Variable Refrigerant Flow system.
Sustainability features include low-flow plumbing fixtures, high-efficiency condensing gas-fired water generator; high-efficiency variable refrigerant flow system, outdoor air delivery monitoring, LED lighting and occupancy/vacancy sensors.
