Frederick Thomas Middle School – New Construction

The Middle school will be approximately 87,000 SF, serving 600 Students.  Mechanical design aligned with LEED Silver Standards.  The Heating and Cooling Design for the facility was designed with Air-cooled, 3-pipe Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems that serve Ceiling Cassette Terminal units located in most spaces throughout the building.   Large Volume Spaces such as the Gymnasium, Auditorium & Cafeteria are served by Packaged Direct Expansion (DX) Rooftop Single Zone Variable Air Volume (SZVAV) Air Handlers with hydronic hot water coils.  The packaged DX supplies the cooling to these spaces and heating by the hot water coils.  A Gas-Fired, Condensing type Boiler system was designed to provide a hot water to all hot water coils throughout the building.  Much of the Ventilation for the building is supplied by Rooftop mounted Packaged DX Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERV) with hot water coils that utilize heat and moisture capture systems to provide a very efficient system to condition the Code required Ventilation throughout the Building.  Domestic Hot Water is provided via gas-fired condensing type water heaters.  87,000sf / $44M
