Chesapeake College – Talbot Science Center Geothermal System

Gipe Associates provided mechanical,  electrical, plumbing, and fire protection system design and construction administration for the Chesapeake College – Talbot Science Center located on  Routes 50 and 213, Wye Mills, Maryland.  The Mechanical and Electrical systems design are based on an educational facility of approximately (17,863) seventeen thousand eight hundred sixty three total square feet.  The geothermal design consisted of 72 boreholes strategically placed so that no trees or existing lines had to be moved or removed.  A total of twelve (12) water to air heat pumps were utilized.  Ventilation air flow and fume hood make up were provided by eleven (11) 100% outside air water source heat pumps.

Prior to the mechanical and electrical design, Gipe Associates helped develop the Campus Master Plan and the Request of Proposal (RFP) for the Talbot Science project.

The Talbot Science Center geothermal well field was piped into headers located in the first floor main mechanical surface vaults.  Gipe Associates was responsible for coordinating, designing, and inspecting the geothermal system for the Architect of Record.  Gipe Associates offered technical expertise based on our general experience with geothermal systems and extensive geothermal experience on the Chesapeake College Campus.

The entire mechanical and electrical design including geothermal well field and components were bid on time and within budget.
