Dundalk Readiness Center Addition / Renovation
The project entails the construction of a 48,450 GSF addition to the Dundalk Readiness Center; renovation of 17,470 GSF of the existing structure; and acquisition of a 5.74-acre parcel of land to accommodate the addition as well as road, parking, and other improvements. The alterations and additions were needed to house the 175th Infantry Battalion that was transferred to the center as part of the national Grow the Army Initiative. The initiative increased troop strength in Dundalk from 150 to 339 soldiers. The new facility is used for military specialty training, leadership development training of unit officers, and team training.
The site contained a wooded section which needed to be cleared to accommodate the addition. Because this virgin site backed up to residences, there was a concern with new lighting and light spill onto adjacent properties. A detailed lighting analysis was conducted, including calculations and a detailed photometric survey of the site before construction. This entailed measuring light levels at midnight on a 10 X 10 grid. The site lighting design not only met LEED site light spill restrictions but also proved to be less footcandles than the measured ambient light which already spilled onto the residences from nearby retail spaces and moonlight.
Construction Cost: $14,000,000
