Easton Elementary School Replacement
Gipe Associates provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services including, geothermal heating, ventilating, air conditioning, power, LED interior and site lighting, fire alarm, high efficiency plumbing and fire protection systems design and contract administration services. The 125,000 square foot elementary school includes a two separate wings, one housing, Headstart, and Pre-K through 2nd grades and the other wing housing grades 3 through 5. The two wings are connected by shared spaces such as a cafeteria/kitchen, gymnasium, and auditorium. This project is the first school in Maryland to achieve LEEDv4 Gold Certification.
Sustainable design features include a geothermal system, LED lighting, variable speed pumps/ fans, waste heat recovery, low flow plumbing fixtures, variable flow kitchen ventilation systems, demand-controlled ventilation. The facility required unique phasing so that one portion of the new building was completed and occupied prior to the demolition of the existing building. Once the existing building was fully demolished, construction of the second wing was able to be completed.
