Edgewood High School (New Construction)

Edgewood High School is a three-story, 262,600 sf educational, cultural, and recreational center for the entire community. The Auditorium is a focal point of the Arts in the area. The media center functions as a community/technology outreach center. Parks and Recreation hosts athletics and community events here, therefore providing public access and maintaining student security are forces in the design.

One major goal for the 1,743-student school was the creation of a school as a community where students are free to interact, be creative, and pursue their individual interests within a learning environment. To meet this end, the school is broken down into three clusters: Freshman Academy; Math/Science/Technology; and Humanities + Fine Arts.

Gipe Associates, Inc. provided MEP engineering for the HVAC, plumbing, voice data, fire protection and electrical systems (including new incoming electrical service, site lighting, power distribution, emergency power/generator, special system and energy efficient lighting) serving the new Edgewood High School, Stadium, and associated athletic fields. The design included replacing the common primary campus electrical service with individual secondary electrical services from BGE to each of the three buildings. The school was designed for 1,743 students and provides the community with space for extensive after school hours use.
