Fountaindale Elementary School HVAC / Electrical Switchgear Replacement
Mechanical and electrical design and contract administration for the replacement of HVAC components & switchgear that dated back to 1968. Scope of work included replacement of unit ventilators with new energy-efficient ventilators in Classroom Areas. Outside air was provided by dedicated outside air units with direct expansion cooling coils/hot water heating coils, energy recovery wheel and hot gas reheat. New variable air volume air handling units with direct expansion coils, hot water heating coils, energy recovery wheels, hot gas reheat and economizer cycles provided heating and cooling for Administration area, and Library areas. Temperature control for these spaces were provided by variable air volume terminal units with reheat. Cooling and heating for the Multi-Purpose room and Gymnasium were provided by Single-Zone Variable Air Volume rooftop units with direct expansion coils, hot water heating coils, energy recovery wheels, hot gas reheat and economizer cycles. A separate classroom wing with limited ceiling space was provided with a variable refrigerant flow system with a dedicated outside air unit.
The electrical switchgear project consisted of the replacement of the 1200 amp service that was originally installed in 1968. Due to occasional flooding over the years, main switches, distribution panels, switchboards, conduit lines were required to be replaced. A separate design was provided to solve the flooding issue.
