J.M. Tawes Career and Technology Center – New Construction
Design and contract administration services were provided for the new construction of Tawes Career and Technology High School. Systems designed included heating, ventilation, air conditioning, power, interior lighting, site lighting, fire alarm, plumbing and fire protection systems to support the 105,000 sf high school located in Westover, MD.
The new facility hosts over 15 career oriented programs including carpentry, computer technology, automotive technology, criminal justice, culinary arts, health occupations, welding, and more. The school district plans to offer adult education classes and partner with WorWic Community College to expand programming.
MEP systems include central dual temperature systems, air side heat pump VRVs, energy recovery ventilators, 100% outside air, process exhaust systems, and potable water wells. This Project is LEED Gold Certified, and Gipe Associates achieved every single LEED point that we pursued related to MEP!
Unique systems include atrium smoke removal, carbon monoxide exhaust, welding stations, and teaching kitchen ventilation systems.
