Longfellow Elementary Renovation & Addition
Gipe Associates provided mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering services for the HVAC replacement at Longfellow Elementary School. This project was a five phase renovation/addition in order to accommodate spaces that were required to remain occupied. The HVAC system was replaced with high efficiency equipment and control strategies. The HVAC equipment replacement improved indoor air quality, indoor environmental conditions and solved noise issues caused by old obsolete equipment. Reconfiguration of the mechanical rooms and cafeteria/ stage area provided better access to the cafeteria and utility rooms; Relocation of the art room, supporting spaces, and the ELR room allow for better functionality. The electrical main distribution panel was replaced along with other electrical system components that were determined to be beyond their useful life. New 480/277V electrical service was provided for the addition with local dry type transformers to provide 208/120V service for receptacles and small appliances. The existing propane-fi red generator was replaced with a new natural gas generator and automatic transfer switches. Gymnasium, cafeteria, and kitchen spaces and telecommunications equipment, and boilers are served by the generator in order for these spaces to be used as an emergency shelter. Lighting systems were replaced in their entirety with new LED lighting, new controls, and vacancy sensors. Fire alarm system, telecommunications, and intrusion detection systems were included as part of this project.
