Mardela Middle/High School Renovation & Addition

After a robust systems analysis and feasibility study, Gipe has the pleasure of serving as the MEP engineer on the renovation/addition project at Mardela Middle/High School.  MEP scope included mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems design, utility tie-ins for temporary portable classrooms, site lighting design, and site electrical work.  The phased-while-occupied renovation consists of all 140,270sf of the school, completely modernizing building systems and updating interiors.  Gipe Associates assisted the design team in creating a detailed phasing plan that will span multiple years and allow the school to be occupied during construction. The HVAC system is a hybrid system that utilizes condensing hot water boilers along with direct expansion cooling for conditioning all ventilation air and variable refrigeration volume units for heating and cooling the spaces.  All new electrical systems , LED lighting systems, fire alarm systems, and IT systems were provided for the school. The fire protection system consisted of a ground suction above grade fire storage tank and a vertical in line fire pump with fire pump controller.  The entire Plumbing system was replaced including water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and piping systems.
