Mary E. Rodman Elementary School – New Construction
As part of the Baltimore City Public Schools Construction and Revitalization Act of 2013, Gipe Associates was selected by Maryland Stadium Authority and Baltimore City Public Schools to provide mechanical, electrical, and IT engineering design and construction administration services for the renovation of and addition to the Mary E. Rodman Elementary School, built in 1962.
The renovation and addition will maximize the reuse of the existing building and provide strategic additions on the existing 1.4 acre site. The existing building will receive major systems renovation and replacement and will be repartitioned. Gipe Associates incorporated the design of energy management, security, and safety into the facility and the building automation controls, security, and fire protection systems conformed to those adopted in the current City Schools design standards as its standard systems, including ASHRAE BACnet compatibility.
The scope of work included mechanical (including heating, ventilation and air conditioning), electrical (including power, fire alarm, telecommunications) and fire protection system design and contract administration.
The extremely compact site with intense topographic changes requires an efficient use of the limited site area with plateaued outdoor teaching environments, play areas, amphitheater seating, green space and site circulation.
LEED services included energy modeling and sustainable design practices in accordance with the latest LEED Silver requirements.
