Michael E Busch Library – New Construction
Gipe was honored to be part of the team to design the Anne Arundel County’s newest library. The new 32,400sf facility features a community room, teen area, tech zone, collaborative meeting rooms, vending café, makerspace, and expanded children’s area. High performance HVAC and Lighting design helped push this project beyond the LEED Silver goal to achieve LEED Gold Certification. HVAC system is comprised of a geothermal water-cooled variable refrigerant flow system in conjunction with a decoupled dedicated outdoor air system which allows for heat recovery for ventilation.
New electrical service and electrical distribution systems were designed for 1000 amperes at 480/277 volts/3-phase/4 wire service. Five electric vehicle charging stations were provided in the front parking lot. Lighting for libraries is critical and requires different illumination levels for each space, such as books stacks, reading areas, meeting rooms, and offices. Lighting control was provided by motion sensors in individual spaces and daylight harvesting was incorporated throughout the building where feasible. ** LEED Gold Certified **
