Showell Elementary School – Feasibility & New Construction
Gipe Associates provided a Feasibility Study for the Showell Elementary School (approximately 59,000sf). During our existing conditions analysis, we reviewed existing drawings, conducted field investigations, and made non-destructive observations of the existing HVAC and electrical systems. Our feasibility study included comparative systems evaluations for new construction and renovations, preliminary HVAC, plumbing, and electrical load calculations, energy modeling, building envelope impacts, and 40-years life cycle cost analysis.
The school district opted for a new facility and Showell Elementary School became Worcester County Public Schools’ first LEED certified school.
Mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection system design and contract administration services were provided. Gipe Associates was an integral part of implementing practical and measurable strategies to improve sustainability and environmental health through the new elementary school’s design, construction, and operations. The HVAC system utilized in the school was a conventional water source heat pump system coupled with water-cooled VRV equipment. 97,613SF / $47.5M
