St. Michaels School Complex Modernization

Gipe Associates provided mechanical (including heating, ventilation, and air conditioning), electrical (including power, interior lighting, site lighting, fire alarm, telecommunication, and security), plumbing, and fire protection system design and construction administration for the renovation of both St. Michaels Elementary School and the adjacent High School, the two buildings connected by an enclosed walkway.

Demolition and new work documents were provided, as well as as-built drawings, and geothermal design.  Gipe also aided in the development of education specifications.

Some of the mechanical, electrical and plumbing energy saving features included in the design of the project are as follows:

  • Ground source geothermal heat pump system.
  • Energy recovery ventilators with enthalpy wheels.
  • Geothermal kitchen exhaust hoods and make-up air system.
  • Water conserving lavatories, urinals and water closets.

The completed facility is adaptable for program and technological advances over the next 25 years, is energy efficient, and is visually appealing to promote student and community use beyond the usual school day.
