Waterloo Fire Station – New Construction
Gipe Associates is providing the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for a new single-story Fire Station in Jessup, Maryland. The sustainability goal for this project is LEED V.4 Gold therefore many sustainable features were employed to meet this goal.
The new facility is approximately 15,000 SF and includes three (3) vehicle apparatus bays with alternate plans for an addition of a 4th bay, sleeping quarters, offices, storage, study area, fitness/training rooms, kitchen, and other support spaces.
The mechanical and electrical systems design include the heating, ventilation, and air conditioning system, supporting power systems, interior lighting and controls, site lighting, fire alarm, plumbing, and fire protection systems design. Gipe provided Bidding phase support and is currently completing the Contract Administration services.
A number of sustainable design features were required to meet the LEED Gold Goal including a geothermal HVAC system, photovoltaics system, water conserving and high efficiency equipment, occupancy controlled LED lighting, and daylight harvesting.
Because design occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic we were able to update the design and incorporate UV lights in all DOAS units and rooftop units as well as increase air change rates for all the bunk rooms.
