West Salisbury Elementary School Replacement
Gipe Associates. Inc. provided mechanical, electrical, and plumbing engineering design for the new 60,800 sf West Salisbury Elementary School. MEP design included engineering for the geothermal heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems, power, interior lighting, site lighting, fire alarm, plumbing systems, and fire protection system. Solar Thermal Panels were utilized to pre-heat the domestic cold water service to the domestic water heaters. This enables a large reduction in the use of fossil fuel to heat domestic hot water. The project achieved LEED Gold Certification and implemented the following sustainable design elements:
- Low flow manual plumbing fixtures, aerators, and low flow process loads.
- Variable speed compressor/fan strategies.
- Demand controlled ventilation.
- Variable speed pumping.
- Geothermal heating/cooling.
- Solar Thermal
- Heat pipe energy recovery for energy recovery units.
- Variable speed fans for each classroom.
- Exhaust air energy recovery.
- Ductless heat pumps as “peaking” units.
- Variable refrigerant volume heat recovery system.
- Heat pipe energy recovery for energy recovery units
- High efficiency volumetric lighting fixtures.
- High efficiency electronic LED drivers.
- High efficacy LED lighting sources.
- Automatic lighting controls, including occupancy/vacancy sensors, and daylight harvesting where applicable.
- Reduction of light pollution.
- High efficiency dry type transformers.
